Spoken in over 60 countries around the world and the official language of the most important international organizations (e.g. the UN, NATO, the Olympic Committee, the Red Cross, the EU, etc.), French is truly a global language!

This course is designed to enable the learner to communicate effectively in this important language and to develop his/her awareness of the Francophone culture.

A: This qualification is suitable for students who have a keen interest in the French language with some prior knowledge (in Year 7 and Year 8).

A: The course covers a range of topics including daily life, leisure, travel, and work. It focuses on the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on practical communication.

Q4: How is the course assessed?

A: The assessment consists of four papers: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. These papers assess different aspects of language proficiency and comprehension.

Q5: How is the Speaking exam conducted?

A: The Speaking exam is a one-to-one conversation with the teacher. It assesses the ability to communicate effectively in spoken French. The topics are related to everyday situations and personal experiences and are prepared within the 3 Years of the programme. Students will have a lot of practice for that component in class, with their teacher and peers.

A: Pearson Edexcel provides official textbooks and resources specifically designed for this course. We are using the Pearson’s Edexcel 9.1 textbook ( Hodder Education). Additionally, students can use French language learning apps, online resources, and practice exams to enhance their preparation.

A: The final grade is determined by the total marks achieved across all four papers. Grades are awarded on a scale from 1 to 9, with 9 being the highest.

Paper 1 Listening – approximately 35 minutes - 40 Marks Externally Assessed

Candidates listen to a number of recordings and answer questions testing comprehension.

Paper 2 Reading and Writing – 1 hour 45minutes - 80 Marks Externally Assessed (40 reading, 40 writing)

Candidates read a number of texts and answer questions testing comprehension and respond in the target language to two tasks in writing.

Paper 3 Speaking - approximately 8-10 minutes - 40 Marks Externally Assessed

Candidates answer questions based on a photograph and take part in a general conversation.
