IB@Dulwich FAQ's

Please note for FAQs regarding the IB Diploma, subjects and CORE components please check out the existing FAQs here.

Will Upper Senior School students normally use the school bus service?

  • Most of Middle Senior School use Singapores' excellent public transport system and so we believe that almost all Upper Senior School students will utilise the public bus system and MRT for its flexibility, safety and price. Remembering the IB Centre will be open for personal study, after school,  and so students will not have the restriction of a specific time for a bus home.

Can USS students use the Clock Tower Cafe?

  • No, sorry. Due to growing numbers of parents and teachers using the cafe, it has been acknowledged that there are now too many students for the small facility to be able to support in an efficient manner.

When will University counselling and support start in Year 12?

  • University counselling will start almost immediately with presentations to Year 12 students in the first few weeks during induction. Parents and students will receive a timeline for applications to all regions in the world to support them, also early in the term. This will be shared at the first Year 12 Parents Information Morning.

Will IB students be receiving a student planner?

  • No. Students are expected to organise themselves using their own preferred methods of management. The school will support students in showing them how to utilise the Office 365 and ManageBAC calendars to effectively manage their time, and also to schedule for long term deadlines so as to create balance within their lives over the two years of the programme.

Will IB students get free periods during the school day?

  • No. IB students will not have free periods during the school day, they will have STUDY periods  where they are expected to utilise their time efficiently to work towards deadlines that have been set for them. Dulwich College (Singapore) has provided excellent facilities for them to study independently - with the IB lounge for collaborative study, the IB Quiet Study Room for private study and also the two floors of the library.

Can IB students come into school later if they have a 'study period' first period of the day?

  • No. All students are expected to attend registration. This is the time that important messages and information will be shared to all students regarding school life, IB updates and, most importantly, university applications. Registration is also the important first contact with the students' tutor. This is a crucial time for addressing wellbeing issues and general concerns.

Can IB students leave campus at lunchtime?

  • Yes. We believe IB students should have the privilege of leaving the campus at lunchtime if they wish to purchase or have lunch in the close vicinity.  It must be noted that lunchtime is short (55 minutes), and there will be many lunchtime activities and so this may not be a viable option on many days. Students will be expected to sign out and in, at USS reception. If a student is late returning, then it may result in this privilege being revoked.

Can IB students utilise the Fitness Studio during their study periods?

  • Yes students will need to sign a  disclaimer and provide consent signatures from their parents. They will need to be inducted into safe use of the Fitness Studio and all equipment, and will need to sign in and out. More information will be shared during the Induction Days in August. We believe exercise during the school day is a good thing for students to be involved in and can relieve the stresses and strains of the IB Diploma. It can also form part of their 'Activity' element of CAS so students will be encouraged to utilise the fitness suite by contacting the PE team to make arrangements. It should be noted that we have also scheduled one period every two weeks for all IB (Year 12/13) students to participate in a sports activity of some kind. Outside of the school day, obviously students are also expected to be involved in sports and other active experiences for their CAS programme.

What times will the library be open for IB students?

  • The IB Centre will be open from 7:00 a.m. until the last supervising member of staff leaves, after school. It is expected to be the main area where collaborative study will happen, alongside the quiet study room. The library will continue its opening hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Senior School students.

Can parents utilise the IB Common Room?

  • No. The IB Common room is a student space for USS students to utilise for collaborative study,  and as a relaxed social space during lunchtime. USS parents that volunteer to support Senior lunches will be welcomed in to setup and prepare celebration lunches and for other occasions as guests.
