- Journalists, scientists, novelists and politicians have been accused of appropriating the work of others.
- Musicians have gone to court over the “blurred lines” between homage and copyright infringement.
- An artist was accused of plagiarizing his logo for the 2020 Olympics from Internet images.
- A science writer plagiarized himself.
- An Instagram celebrity was called out for stealing jokes.
- A 17-year-old novelist, a finalist for a major book prize, said her lifted work was “mixing,” not plagiarism.
- Essays presented as “personal statements” for college applications have been taken directly from published work online.

•Borrowing a friend’s work, copying parts / all of it & pretending it’s your own.
•Hiring someone else to write your work and pretending it’s your own.
•Buying pre-written assignments and pretending they’re your own work.
•Copying or cutting/pasting directly from a book or website without using quotation marks & citing the source.
•Using ideas or arguments from an information source and not citing that source, even if it is written in your own words!!
