Group 3 - Global Politics
Global Politics
The IB Global Politics course explores political concepts, such as power, interdependence, sovereignty and legitimacy, in a range of contexts and through a variety of approaches. It allows students to develop an understanding of the local, national, international and global dimensions of political activity, as well as providing them with the opportunity to explore political issues affecting their own lives.
As the GP guide clearly states, 'the global politics course requires no specific prior learning. No particular background in terms of specific subjects studied for national or international qualifications is expected or required. The skills needed for the global politics course are developed within the context of the course itself.'
Having said that, there are a range of activities that GP students can carry out and a number of useful resources they may wish to engage with.
A useful starting point would be to research the various definitions and political theories relating to these central ideas:
- Power
- Rights
- Justice
- Development
- Sustainability
- Peace
- Conflict
- Interdependence
- Sovereignty
- Legitimacy
