Group 5 - Mathematics
All IB DP students take one IB Mathematics course
- Pupils have four course options (see the tabs below for more information on each course):
- Analysis and Approaches Standard Level (AA SL)
- Analysis and Approaches Higher Level (AA HL)
- Applications and Interpretations Standard Level (AI SL)
- Applications and Interpretation Higher Level (AI HL)
All introductory information about IB Mathematics at DCSG and the 4 different courses can be found here.
The Graphic Display Calculator (GDC) - MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
All students taking IB Maths at DCSG need the Texas Instruments TI Nspire CX II Graphical Display Calculator (GDC). It looks like this:
- The full calculator details are:
- Texas Instruments TI Nspire CX II Graphical Display Calculator and software.
- Currently available on Amazon Singapore - here.
- We recommend that all students buy their own new TI Nspire CX II GDC and bring in the packet it comes in to their first two weeks of Mathematics here at DCSG. This will avoid technical errors, battery issues and ensure all students have access to the online software code which is vital for the completion of their IB Mathematics Internal Assessment (IA) worth 20% of their final grade. This software code is non-transferable and comes in the packets for all new GDCs.
- Other GDCs are allowed in the exam (please check the IB subject guides for more info) but you will not be taught according to any other models. This is because each GDC uses specific instructions for each Mathematical skill and teaching these skills via 5+ different GDCs for over 200+ skills is not possible given the time constraints of lessons.
What can you do to get ready for IB Maths?
- Use any previous Year 11/Grade 12 Maths resources to go back through Algebra, Functions and Geometry.
- Buy an IB Maths Revision guide suitable for the course you have chosen and go through the first key topics in each chapter.
When you start year 12 these are the additional supports you can use as you begin the course:
- Start attending one of our Maths Drop-ins on a regular basis. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in room SS206. Ask questions and drive your progress by working through your target areas.
- Grab an A-level revision guide from S1-12 and work through the algebra and functions pages.
- Work through the Dr Frost IB DP Maths courses we have put together.
- Start doing the Core HL book chapters from here or the Core SL book chapters from here.
- Make an appointment to meet with your Maths teacher or the Maths leadership team (Ms. Harrison, Mr. Pulford, Ms. Longstaff, Mr. Yardley) to create a bespoke plan.
