Mara Menzies
Mara Menzies is a storyteller of Kenyan-Scottish heritage who uses this to share stories based on history, legend, myth and folklore. Mara will be presenting to students right across the College - in the DUCKS, Junior & Seniors School and we are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the shared experience.
She will introduce our Book Week and prepare videos for use in English lessons during Book Week and provide a live workshop for the IGNITE Drama Group during their CCA in Book Week.

Mara's DSCG Book Week Introduction:
Year 7 & 8
Conversation about her life as a storyteller dotted with some of the stories that have shaped and influenced her.
Year 9 & 10
Exploring the blessings and challenges she has faced as a mixed-race woman navigating the world and how stories have links to her cultural heritage have helped in that process. Third culture kids.
Year 11
A session based on her novel Blood and Gold which explores the legacy of colonialism and slavery but through myth, fantasy. and a touch of magic. Including discussion about how she has taken real-life events and created different narratives to explore certain ideas and a retelling of these stories. Also, discussion the difference between performance storytelling and literature by presenting a couple of readings and performances.
