Jude Marwa

DUCKs teacher and DCSG parent, Jude Marwa, has agreed to talk about her success as a short story writer. Life writing is one of Jude's favourite genres and over the last couple of her short stories have been published in anthologies with Bradt Travel Guides - Pioneering Guides to Exceptional Places.

Kidding Around, the lastest anthology to include one of Jude's stories, lifts the lid on the perils and joys of travelling with babies, toddlers and teenagers in locations spanning five continents. The earlier publication, The Irresponsible Traveller, is a light but edgy collection of true tales about the stickiest situations in which travel writers and travel celebrities (including Michael Palin & Ben Fogle) have found themselves in.

DUCKS teacher and DCSG parent, Jude Marwa enthralled parents this week during our Coffee & Conversations With An Author Session. It was such a treat to have her read her latest short story 'Taking the teen for a walk' recently published in the Bradt Travel Guide Kidding Around: Tales of Travel with Children.

Providing insights into what inspires her writing process and how she finds the time to write, Jude entertained us with lots of hilarious short stories about how she came to write her short stories and what she aspires to do with her writing in the future.

Parents who attended the session were able to buy copies of the book and have them signed at the end. Focusing on a series of real-life tales focuses on different aspects of travel, the central message of this anthology is to reassure parents that having children doesn't put an end to wanderlust. With contributions from a range of both well-known, professional travel writers and newer writers from the UK and North America, this engaging and entertaining compilation of 37 stories lifts the lid on the perils and joys of travelling with babies, toddlers and teenagers in locations spanning five continents.

Copies of the book can be ordered here and Jude would always be happy to sign them

The Irresponsible Traveller, a light but edgy collection of travellers' tales, was the first travel guide to one of Jude's story. Travel writers and celebrities alike recount exciting, and often dangerous, adventures which include being chased by a sea lion, accosted by Brazilian kidnappers and a midnight raid to free turtles on the Amazon. Over 40 years Bradt has built a reputation for publishing books covering the road less travelled, and this collection celebrates exactly the sort of writing and storytelling about 'unusual' travel experiences that helped to establish the company as a firm favourite amongst adventurous travellers. Featuring contributions from Hilary Bradt, Michael Palin, Ben Fogle and Jonathan Scott, the title is a perfect to dip in and out of.
